My Favorite Song From Beabadoobee's Concert 2023

Beabadoobee is an alternative indie rock artist with a unique sound and unforgettable name. You might recognize her song, Coffee, which was sampled by Powfu and became a viral sensation online. This song is not very representative of her style of music, however, and her sound might surprise you if this is the only song of hers you have heard. When I decided to go to her concert in Tucson in March of 2023, I mostly knew her more popular songs and a few older ones. In the weeks before the show, however, I dove much deeper into her discography and I left the show a Beabadoobee super-fan. She put on an incredible concert, and I’d like to tell you about my favorite song from her performance, Fairy Song.

This song was already one of my favorites from Beabadoobee’s discography before coming to the show, but experiencing it live added more to this song than I even would have thought was possible. Fairy song had an acoustic guitar and drumbeat sound with uplifting backing vocals throughout, as well as insightful lyrics that I found reflective, clever, and relatable. The bridge of this song sounded much different than the rest of the song though, with the same lyrics repeated over and over with lots of background noise. It gave the feeling of over-stimulation and a head full of thoughts that the speaker of the song just can't shut out. This bridge was already a powerful moment in the song, but when it was performed live, all of the lights in the venue flickered on and off as they spun around in different colors. It was as if we were living inside the brain of the speaker of the song, with a million different noises, lights, colors, screams, and instruments to take in all around us. The experience of hearing and seeing this song performed live added meaning to the song that has changed and amplified its message forever in my eyes. The soft vocals and acoustic sound returned for the outro of the song, and as the music faded the crowd burst into applause and cheers for an incredible performance.
