Seeing beabadoobee At The Greek Theater

During my last week in Los Angeles this summer, I had the privilege of seeing beabadoobee perform at the Greek Theater. I was able to go to this concert because my friend Celina had won tickets to the concert through an Instagram giveaway which, like, who knew those were real, right? This was my second time seeing beabadoobee live but the setlist had some changes from the first time I saw her back in March, so I got to hear a few songs that I didn’t get to experience before. Two of these songs played back to back and it was my favorite portion of the concert. This might come as a shock to you but… they were the two acoustic introspective emotional songs — who would have guessed? “Pictures Of Us” followed by “Animal Noises” were beautiful songs to witness the performance of, and I would love to describe the songs and overall experience to you.

Pictures of Us

Experiencing “Pictures of Us” live was one of those moments where you already like a song, but you leave the concert loving the song. The entire crowd put their phone flashlights up and swayed back and forth as beabadoobee sang the emotional lyrics accompanied by her band. This song has a soft-rock emo sound with layered backing vocals and an electric guitar melody that carries the listener through the song. The song made me feel like I was floating, and with the phone flashlights lighting up all the nature around us at the Greek Theater, I had such a fuller experience than just listening to it I truly felt that song in my core, and it was especially rewarding to see my friend Celina, who I went to the concert with, totally fall in love with the song in real-time.

Favorite lyric:

“She reminded me that God starts with a capital,

But I don’t think I could do it,

No, I don't think I could do it.”

Animal Noises

Seeing “Animal Noises” performed live was a very special moment for me because it was actually the song that got me into beabadoobee’s music in the first place. I had listened to her most popular songs, but one day in the library I had her discography on shuffle and immediately added this song to my favorites the first time it played I really connected with the lyrics and the themes of being scared to grow up, missing being a kid and struggling to accept that you’ll never be the carefree child that you once were again. Beabadoobee played this song acoustically —  just her and her guitar while sitting on a couch on the stage. The sounds were just as raw and vulnerable as the lyrics were, and it made me experience the emotion of the song on a deeper level.

Favorite lyric:

Maybe you like my mistakes,

And maybe you get why I lie,

And maybe the things that made you want to live

Were the things that made me want to die.”

This was the first time I’ve seen an artist twice on the same tour, but it honestly felt like a completely different show. The setlist was different, although it had many of the same songs, and the atmosphere of the venue as well as the overall feel of the crowd at each show was completely distinct. The moral of the story is that when someone offers you free concert tickets, you say yes!
